Graston Technique® is an innovative, patented form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to effectively break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions. Muscle knots are formed when injured tissue heal improperly and scar tissue deposit randomly. With Graston Technique®, the body’s healing process restarts, and new nutrients and blood are brought to the area. The Graston Technique® utilizes specially designed stainless-steel instruments to specifically detect and effectively treat areas exhibiting soft tissue fibrosis or chronic inflammation. Best results occur in 8-12 treatments according to clinical studies.
Injuries to the neck caused by a sudden movement of the head, backward, forward, or sideways, are referred to as “whiplash.” Whether from a car accident, sports, or an accident at work, whiplash or other neck injuries demand a chiropractic check-up. The biggest danger with whiplash injuries is that the symptoms can take years to develop.
Whiplash is most commonly associated with rear-end car collisions in which the heads of those in the front car are suddenly snapped back and forth by the impact. Whiplash injuries most often result in sprain-strain of the neck. The ligaments that help support, protect, and restrict excessive movement of the neck are torn, which is called a sprain. The joints in the back of the spine are covered by ligaments, which seem to be particularly vulnerable to whiplash injury. In addition, the muscles and tendons are strained—stretched beyond their normal limits. The discs between the vertebrae (spinal column) can be torn, potentially causing a disc herniation. The nerve roots between the vertebrae (spinal column) may also be stretched and become inflamed. Even vertebrae can be fractured or dislocated in a whiplash injury.
The resulting instability of the spine and soft tissues can result in headaches, dizziness, blurred vision, pain in the shoulder, arms and hands, reduced ability to turn and bend, and even low back problems. As the body attempts to adapt, symptoms may not appear for weeks or even months later. A common result of these injuries is the loss of the normal cervical curve (on x-ray imaging), causing positive orthopedic and neurological examination findings.
Chiropractic Care Can Help:
The accident that caused the whiplash can fade into memory, but the physical and psychological damage of whiplash can become chronic, affecting a victim’s quality of life. Chiropractic care is necessary to relieving the pain and other devastating effects of whiplash because it can:
Exercise or playing sports is an important step in maintaining your health. Exercise strengthens your heart, bones, joints, reduces stress, and enhances your energy and confidence. Unfortunately, sports injuries are too common and in most cases, we play too hard, too long, or too fast. The more commonly injured areas of the body are the ankles, knees, shoulders, elbows, and spine. Bones can sometimes be fractured with acute sports injuries, the most commonly injured structures are the muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Tendons attach muscles to bones, and ligaments attach one bone to another.
An acute twisting or overextension of a joint can lead to tears of muscle fibers and tendons, called “strains,” and tears of ligaments result in “sprains.” Also, your disc can be torn, resulting in a disc bulge or herniation. In those who are training too much, overuse of particular joints in the body can result in pain and dysfunction. These injuries are called “overuse syndromes.” A common overuse injury is tendinitis. In this condition, the tendon becomes inflamed from repetitive use. Some athletes may experience a stress fracture, also called a fatigue fracture. This type of fracture occurs when an abnormal amount of stress is placed on a normal bone. This might occur in a runner who rapidly increases the amount of mileage while training for a race.
Sports injuries are most often diagnosed from the history of the activity that brought on the pain, along with a physical examination. In some cases, x-rays are necessary to rule out a fracture. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and diagnostic ultrasound are also used in finding soft-tissue injuries, like tendinitis and sprains.
Chiropractic care focuses on restoring motion and function to joints, muscles and nervous system. Therefore, the body has the best opportunity to maximize proper function. Many professional athletes are utilizing chiropractic care because they realize that it helps them maximize athletic performance. Also, more and more professional and college teams are utilizing chiropractic care for that same reason.
The Kinesio Taping® Method is a therapeutic taping technique which alleviates pain and facilitates lymphatic drainage by microscopically lifting the skin. This lifting affect forms convolutions in the skin increasing interstitial space and allowing for decreased inflammation in affected areas. Based upon research and years of clinical use, The Kinesio® Taping Method specifically applies Kinesio tape based on evaluation and assessment to dictate a specific application. Kinesio® Tex Tape applications can be applied in hundreds of ways and have the ability to reduce pain and inflammation, promote post-surgical healing, optimize performance, prevent injury and promote good circulation and can assist the body’s natural healing process.
